CLOSE CASE STUDY

THE CHALLENGE
Kickstands.bike is a travel site built specifically for motorcycle riders. Its mission is simple: help bikers find hotels that offer verified, secure motorcycle parking. Standard travel search engines treat parking as a one-size-fits-all feature — a hotel either has a parking lot or it doesn’t. But for a rider, leaving an expensive bike in an open, unmonitored surface car park is a non-starter. Our challenge was to take a massive amount of global hotel data, sort through it for very specific security features, and display those properties to riders in a clean, straightforward way.
THE PALADIN APPROACH
Every great digital product starts by solving a real-world problem. For Kickstands.bike, the goal wasn't to build just another generic hotel directory, but to create a smart filter that does the homework for the user. To pull this off, we focused on three main goals: pulling in reliable data, building a smart sorting system, and keeping the design simple.
Sorting the Useful Data from the Noise
To give users choices all over the world, we connected the site to a comprehensive, live global hotels API (database). The catch is that standard hotel data doesn't come with a neat little label saying "perfect for motorcycles."
To fix this, we built a smart filtering system that automatically reads through hotel descriptions and amenities as they load. It scans for key details that riders actually care about (like secure parking garages, accessible parking, and indoor storage) and separates them from standard text. If a hotel has these high-value features, the site automatically highlights and ranks them accordingly. Importantly, it complements this with semantic search, which is smarter than traditional keyword matching.
Keeping the Interface Clean
On the design side, we wanted a layout that gives users answers at a glance. Instead of burying riders in a wall of text, the site labels hotel parking features into clear, scannable tags.
Simple, Direct Booking Links
We didn't want to overcomplicate the booking process or force users to learn a new checkout system. Instead, we built direct, secure links that connect straight to trusted platforms like Booking.com and Hotels.com. When a user clicks to book, the site automatically formats and updates the link with the specific hotel name and city. This takes the traveller straight to the exact booking page they need, with their destination pre-populated and ready to go.
By combining smart data filtering with a clear understanding of what riders actually need, we helped turn a major travel headache into a smooth, reliable tool. For the modern motorcycle traveller, planning the next overnight stop just got a lot easier.
